“Got allergies? Tiny discovery nothing to sneeze at”
This is the kind of science-fiction-like technology that I love hearing about! I don’t suffer from allergies much, but GoddessJ does, several times a year. This should make her very happy.

This is an interesting article. As I understand it, the Theory of Relativity says nothing about which way time has to flow — the equations work in either direction. And I believe I recall that it was the legendary Dr. Richard Feynman who suggested that quantum entanglement might be due to temporal hanky-panky (though I …

I’ve enjoyed David Brin’s science fiction works, ever since I picked up a copy of Startide Rising in the early eighties. (It’s still one of my favorite SF books.) When I saw on Boing Boing that there was an interview with him that was published a few days ago, I had to read it immediately. …
This story seems a bit daft, until you realize exactly how the scientists expect to find signs of extraterrestrial life. It actually sounds feasible. Of course, given that a Vulcan has recently been discovered in Canada, they may not need telescopes to find extraterrestrial life.
Here’s one that no SF author ever thought of: pants that prevent flatulence from smelling. In retrospect, it’s so obvious that you can’t help but wonder how anyone missed it. I expect I’ll get a year’s supply of these as a Christmas present from GoddessJ.

This story, unlike the last one, is crap. Just my opinion, of course, but it’s too far beyond our current technology to have more than a very slim chance of making any progress without lots more basic research first. It smells like an attempt at the lucrative government defense pork barrel to me.
This is the kind of stuff that I love to find! Technologies that are currently found only in science fiction, such as interstellar travel, all rely on a number of unspoken assumptions… for instance, that the people traveling that way have some way of eating during the trip. (Even if they make the trip in …

…which just goes to show that you can turn anything mildly interesting into a cash cow. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to believe that Earth has been visited by extraterrestrial intelligences in the recent past, and I like a good conspiracy theory as much as anyone. But the preponderance of evidence suggests that this …
It is with a heavy heart that I read this article this morning, saying that the recently-revived Doctor Who series is once again headed for oblivion. As a teenager, I would stay up late one night a week to catch reruns of a full story (a variable number of episodes, totaling anywhere from 45 minutes …
