“Microsoft admits Office 2003 ‘mistake'”

Color me shocked.

After my post on the recent Office 2003 debacle, I expected Microsoft to do what they’ve always done (and what they continue to do with Windows Vista): ignore the complaints and forge on. Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead. But apparently they heard enough complaints that they’ve backed off on this one.

There may be hope for the company yet.

  1. Well, one can only hope they’ll withdraw Vista from the market, or give it some radical brain surgery. Both look unlikely at this point.

  2. They can’t withdraw it, much as they should. And after the major decisions that went into it (such as the DRM ones), there isn’t much that even brain surgery can do for it. But let’s hope that they’re learning their lesson, and the next version is halfway decent. People will just have to struggle through until then, or move to another OS if they have to buy a new computer before Vista’s replacement is ready… though by that point, there isn’t much reason to switch back.
