Legalize the giving, but not the receiving, of bribes, giving the briber every incentive to report the bribee — including getting his bribe money back.
I have to admire the guy who came up with this. The only reason to criminalize the giving of a bribe is moralistic outrage, a system like this would be a hell of a lot more effective at eliminating the problem of bribery.
What about if the vote/verdict/whatever the official is giving in exchange for the bribe is worth more than the bribe itself? There’d be no incentive for the bribe-er to get merely his money back.
And I suspect that’s the case with most bribes, or they’d find some other way to spend the money. 😉
Sure there would — after the vote/verdict/whatever is cast.
BIg corps want politicians not only to be bought once, but to stay bought. Then again, what they do isn’t called bribery, it’s called PACs. 😉
Yes, this would only work against small-time corruption. Politicians are in a corruption class all of their own.
