Bonus Post: New Theme

I’ve installed a new theme (F2, the successor to the Fluid Blue theme that I’ve been using for a while now), and made a child theme from it so I could include my icon. Let me know if you see any problems with it.

  1. The subtitle to your blog has it’s tails to “p” and the bottom of other letters cut off by the “Home” box on the bar. I’ll send you a screenie.

  2. Yes, I see that too. Not sure what to do about it yet, or even if anything needs to be done.

  3. Though this is a good theme – it is not updated to be compatible with WP3. The author does not respond to any support requests – and there is no forum also that self-supports this theme. So in a way, you are on your own. Unless you are a programmer and/or understand PHP well – this theme would (virtually) put off your website appearance by a decade.

  4. It seems compatible enough to me. I haven’t seen any trouble with it in the three weeks I’ve been running it, except the slightly-too-small subtitle area described above. I’ve never had to ask for support for it or its predecessor either.

As for the rest: I am a programmer. I don’t know PHP, but programmers are well-known for caring a lot less about how something looks than other people. 😉

  5. I wouldn’t use this theme on a professional site, because the font problem makes it jar a bit, but other than that, it looks good enough for a site that mostly caters to friends and people who stumble by. 🙂

  6. To each his own. If this were a professional site, I might just fix the problem. It seems to just be a size problem on the subtitle field, not a font problem.

Then again, I might still use it as-is. It looks a lot more professional than some professional sites I’ve seen recently.

  7. Seems a waste of time to learn CSS just to fix that

@headgeek I guess you are not using the latest version of F2. The latest version incorporates the ‘menu’ system of WP3.0 You can check that on my website.

  8. @Anup: You’re right. The latest version hasn’t hit the WordPress servers (yet, anyway), so I didn’t know about it.

@Ploni: The updated theme didn’t fix the header, but while I was picking it up I noticed mention of a settings page for it. There was an option there for the height of the header, so I was able to adjust it. 🙂
