I’ve long maintained that anyone with a normally-working brain can learn to be smart. This article lends weight to that opinion.

A brain is like any other muscle in the body, it needs exercise.
There’s more to smarts than just exercising the brain, though. If all you’re doing is repeating the same basic things over and over (such as word puzzles or Sudoku), you’re not going to get any smarter. You have to tackle all sorts of different things, and learn all sorts of new ways to handle them.
Advanced math, computer programming, rocket science… it’s not just that people who are smart are drawn to those subjects, but also that people who are drawn to them get smart (or smarter), by working with them.
I’ve always been interested in a lot of subjects, and am always finding new things to learn. I think that has helped, you’re right.
