Comparison Shopping

Proof that it pays to comparison shop: I was in the Staples store here and saw a 4GB flash drive for $109. Then I walked next door to the Best Buy store, and saw the same 4GB flash drive, from the same manufacturer… for $49.

And the most disgusting part of it is, even Best Buy is probably still making a decent profit on it.

  1. What you can do in that case is then head back over to Staples, tell them it’s cheaper at Best Buy and they’ll sell it to you for the same price as Best Buy minus 10% of the difference, or in this case, $44. Best Buy, Staples and Futureshop all have the same policy of undercutting the lowest price out there, so it pays off to comparison shop for the cheapest price… and then buy from the most expensive place. 🙂

  2. Hm… I hadn’t seen mention of it in a while, but I think you’re right, at least about Staples and Best Buy. I wasn’t in the market for one of those flash drives, but I’ll keep it in mind for future purchases. 🙂
