  1. That’s just it, though — a lot of people don’t honestly communicate with their spouse when it comes to money, because it’s such an emotional issue for some.

As examples: One of our acquaintances equates money with love, and if his/her spouse doesn’t allow him/her to spend whatever (s)he wants without complaint, (s)he feels unloved. I hear that a relative of ours spends tons of money that (s)he doesn’t have on eBay, and lies to his/her spouse about how much the things (s)he bought cost.

It’s a sticky issue, and one that many people avoid to keep marital harmony. That’s only a short-term solution though.

  2. Speaking of money, I did a quick calculation and found out that even with an ETF of $49 I saved more money by disconnecting our voice line + DSL and switching to cable, instead of waiting for my DSL contract to end in 2 1/2 months, so I did. I’ll be offline from the 25th of this month through March 4th, though I’ll be reachable on my smartphone via email anyway. There don’t appear to be any open access points that are up all the time within reach of my desktop anymore, so my surfing will be on a ~3.2″ screen only.

I would install a tethering app, but not only would Sprint not like that a firmware update is coming in Febuary over-the-air and I don’t want to risk my phone malfunctioning when it’s the only internet and phone service I’ll have. (The unofficial tethering app for webos is an awful hack that regularly is broken when firmware is updated, reportedly, and not surprisingly.) It’s times like these that I miss my Palm Centro, like any Treo, PalmOS or (hack, spit) WinMo, it could tether very well. (As can, for a price, a Palm Pre Plus on Verizon; well, it’s even better as it’s like a Mifi then.)

  3. Have fun offline, and be sure to catch up with Geek Drivel as soon as you return. 🙂

  4. You should have a mobile site to make it easier for me. 😉

I can still read your blog, it’s very nice via RSS, and I can even leave comments and read a normal website. So don’t say anything behind my back. 😉

  5. Odd, it handles most special characters with no problem. Not sure what the secret is, maybe entering them HTML-encoded.
