Holidays Around the World

My company is presently doing consulting work for a company in another country. It’s great… I get the holidays from my country, and the people I work with aren’t at work on the holidays in their country so I get those too. [1]

I’m trying to figure out how I can get holidays from other countries off too. July 12th is Battle of the Boyne Day in Northern Ireland. August 6th is Picnic Day in Australia, and October 1st is the Queen’s Birthday there too. There are at least three different Labor/Labour days listed, one of which is today (also for Australia — it seems that they’ve got a lot of holidays there!). Today is also said to be something called the “Early May Bank Holiday” in the UK… I wonder if there’s any way to swing it that I could save the extra holiday on days like today and use them on days when there’s no holiday? I might never have to work again! 🙂

Notes

[1] No, this entire entry is just a lighthearted exercise in wishful thinking. I only get the holidays from the client’s country (and then only because no one is in at the client company), which sucks when a holiday in my country comes around. On the plus side, the crowds at nearby attractions are a lot smaller when I do get a day off.
