A few Firefox extensions, like flash blocking and an extension, “auto-pager” that makes most “multi-page” websites into a single page, make sites like that almost bearable.
Ads aren’t that bad… so long as they aren’t flashing or moving, anyway. FlashBlock prevents most such ads from appearing, and the escape key (at least in Firefox) stops the few animated GIFs that remain.
The multi-page thing is an annoyance, but a tolerable one (to me), so I haven’t bothered with the “auto-pager” extension.
