“Boy Hit By Meteorite Travelling At 30,000mph”

I don’t know about the speed, but it’s interesting because he’s only the second person in documented history to be hit by a meteor.

Wasn’t there a Disney song “If you catch a falling star…”? Well, only two people ever have done that, so brighten up my day some other way, Disney!

It sounds vaguely familiar, but the only Disney song about stars that I know is “When you wish upon a star.”

OK, so apparently, according to Google, Perry Como sang it. He never brightened up my day anyway. ;-)

As the scientotechnological level of society advances, we will soon be capable of monitoring all near-Earth objects and possibly confronting them, either by disintegrating them or by deorbiting them.

There are over ten thousand “detectable” orbiting objects (i.e. objects four inches or larger) that are already being monitored — “dead satellites, spent rocket stages, a camera, a hand tool, and junkyards of whirling debris left over from chance explosions and destructive tests.” I suspect they’ll soon have to do something about them.
